Went to visit grandma yesterday afternoon... was glad to see the smile on her wrinkled face... initially she was quietly eating the food that i bought for her... and seemed to be in deep thoughts... there was not much conversation for nearly an hour, afterwhich she began to chat with me... :) ... i guess she must be enjoying the food...

We talked abt the past... how i loved the simple dishes she prepared every day... simple food but yet so delicious... esp the steamed fish and stir fried green veggies... my fav... not forgetting the curry chicken she cooked occasionally as it was heaty... ('',) ... i rem myself gobbling down a 2nd bowl of rice even when i felt so full... just because i need an excuse to savor more of her yummy dishes... i was 6 years old then... :)

She was sharing with me abt her life after marriage... though i couldn't make up what she said half of the time as she is toothless and thus has dificulty pronouncing her words properly, i tried to assure her with my constant nods to let her know that im listening...

She was a maid for a peranakan couple... i guess life was tough on her... as she was a widow in her early 40s... and struggled to make ends meet... esp when she has 5 children to take care of... trying to test her memory, i asked her for my grandpa's name... and she remembered... now then i know my grandpa's name was Kim Heng... but i couldn't ask about his sirname... coz i dunno how to ask that in hokkien... well, language barrier... afterall my hokkien is not that terrific.. since my training only lasted for 2 short years during my stay with my grandma... but i consider myself not bad already... :) ... (jus chatted with mum and asked her abt ah kong's sirname.. she replied "Neo Kim Heng"... then i realised that ya hor, his sirname should be "Neo" since my mum's sirname is also "Neo" mah! omg, where did i leave my brains???")

We chatted for 2 hours till the sun sets... she asked me to go home since it was getting dark... and i did... my stomach was groaning already... :) ... waving goodbye to her, i walked away feeling happy as i saw her grinning from ear to ear... i have fulfilled a day without regrets... :)
